Frenchman Loris Baz crashes out as he approached top speed towards the end of the long straight at the MotoGP testing at Sepang Circuit.
The crash caused delays for over an hour as debri was cleared from the track where cleared up.
According to the machine’s data logger, Baz was flung over the handlebars at 290.4km/h.
What caused him to crash is still the subject of an investigation by MotoGP officials, his Avintia Racing team and engineers from the sport’s returning tyre manufacturer, Michelin.
Although no cause has been identified, Michelin have taken the precaution of withdrawing the type of tyre that was on the rear of Baz’s machine from further use at the test, and enforcing a minimum rear tyre inflation pressure.
Although a little shaken Baz was lucky enough to walk away with nothing more than a bruised elbow.
