Today footage was released of Australian motorbike stunt rider Robbie Maddison riding huge waves in Tahiti on a motorbike!
The KTM 250 SX has been heavily modified with skis enabling a rider to ride across water. Robbie has already demonstrated the bikes ability riding across water in the jungle and calm ocean waters, but footage released today of Robbie surfing a massive wave in Teahupoo will surely go down in history.
The inspiration for how he could make a bike float on water came when he was watching his wife wakesurf using the boat’s wake to propel her forward without a tow rope.
“It really perplexed me and inspired me and made me undress what was going on to understand the physics of it and I got a deep sense of the board and the way it was moving,” Maddison said.
“It wasn’t long after I thought if I put one of those under my motorcycle I bet I could ride on the water so we made some blueprints and came up with the concept.”
“People are very quiet these days. I had some dirt kicked in my face, some people could see it working but didn’t believe in the whole concept,” Maddison said.
“The goal for this was to get it in a barrel and I’m not going to give up until I get it into a barrel. As long as I can get the funding and get the support.
“Now that I can show people and there’s this huge energy about it we’re going to take it to the next level and get the support to do it, and now when I talk about it I might not sound so crazy.”
